Citizens Income Online

Each month, or thereabouts, we shall be placing a question for discussion on this page.

Any visitor to this site is welcome to submit a comment in response to the question or in response to someone else's comment.

To do this please email the Citizen's Income Trust.

We would also be interested to receive suggestions for future discussion questions.

Housing Benefit

A Citizen's Income would solve some problems, but not others. One unresolved issue is Housing Benefit, which contributes to the marginal withdrawal rate suffered by many households. A Citizen's Income on its own would not reduce the poverty and unemployment trap effects of Housing Benefit.

Mark Wadsworth's new paper, Social Housing, Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit, offers a possible solution.

We would value comment.

The London School of Economics has published a report on social housing which relates to these issues. Click here to see the report and a summary.

Responses by email will be gratefully received.
